3 Things Which Will Lead You To Success

I am about to reveal my three basic tenets of success. These are the things I wish somebody had told me when I was younger. For decades I have been reading and consuming self help material. I have heard every bad piece of advice known to man.

When I had yet another business fail, I decided to pin down what the exact problem was. I narrowed it down to three things I wished I had learned when searching for help. I came up with these three techniques and decided to launch this website. I wanted to give people real success help that works. These are the three most important things you can do for success in your life.

Get In Shape and Gain Energy….

The first thing you must do for success is to get in the best physical shape possible. The main reason for this is because of what it will do for your energy levels. You should always be trying to gain more personal energy.

Energy will allow you to reach your goals faster and with less effort. How can you possibly be operating at an optimal level if you are tired and bogged down all the time? You can’t. You need to get in shape. You need to implement a program of eating and exercise which will give you MORE energy.

You don’t need to feed your body 5 times a day. You don’t need to eat a huge meal representing all the food groups every meal. You can eat light throughout the day for more energy. If you are working on a big project and on a roll, why would you stop to eat lunch? It will totally derail your momentum and you will never find your way back to where you were before lunch.

If you limit your carbohydrate levels in the morning, you absolutely won’t need to eat at noon. I often will skip lunch if I am busy and motivated. Less food can actually give you more energy!

We have been told for years that skipping meals will make you gain weight. We have been told you must eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have been told to eat snacks in between meals to keep from getting too hungry.

Nothing can be further from the truth. The more you eat, especially if you are eating carbohydrates, the hungrier you will be throughout the day.

Another key component in raising your energy levels is hydration. If you are not properly hydrated you will feel sluggish. You should drink half your bodyweight in ounces every day. (If you weight 180 lbs, you should drink 90 ounces of water a day.) When you are dehydrated you can confuse it with hunger. This can lead to overeating.

You should be exercising 5-6 times per week. This should include weight training and cardiovascular exercise. The more you move your body, the more you will WANT to move your body. Motion creates energy. If you do nothing else, you should be exercising. It can change your mindset instantly and put you into an energetic state.

I used to do what I called The Superman Workout when I was looking for more energy. I decided I was going to start a swimming program at the gym. After 40 minutes or so of swimming I would hit the steam room. Then when I could not stand the steam anymore (about 10 minutes) I would take an ice cold shower. When I walked out of the gym I felt like I was about to come off the ground. I felt absolutely invigorated. This is why I started calling it The Superman Workout. I felt like I was gonna take to the sky and fly!

This is what I felt like after doing what I dubbed The Superman Workout

You absolutely must keep your energy levels high to accomplish great things. This is done by limiting carbohydrates, drinking more water, exercising and eating fewer calories. This is how you can give yourself super human energy levels. This is what the next level achievers are doing.

There is no reason to bog your system down every 3-4 hours with a heavy meal. Eat some protein, maybe some nuts and seeds or veggies. Keep your fire burning. If you eat a bunch of bread or potatoes at lunch time, you will be tired in the afternoon. Your brain won’t be working.

So eat lighter, drink more water, start exercising and watch your energy levels skyrocket.

Stop Consuming and Start Producing

Be a producer instead of a consumer. How many of you follow people who you envy on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram? I do.

I have been a “self help” junkie for the last 2 decades. I have read every book and listened to every “guru” out there. I have always been a “consumer” when it comes to self help and improvement. But one day I decided to write my own program. It was a weight loss program. I wrote it, launched it and soon was making 10k a month. A month! You can read about it here. This is what can happen when you start producing instead of consuming.

I can’t tell you how many times I have been working on something and decided to go check out somebody elses content. Next thing I know I have been sucked into an internet rabbit hole. By the time I come up for breath I am tired, unmotivated and have wasted hours.

This is not only about social media consumption. How much time do you spend a day wishing you were somewhere else? How much time do you spend talking about someone more successful than you? How much time are you consumed by something somebody else is doing?

Instead of talking about how so and so lost a bunch of weight and got in shape, why not get yourself in shape. Why not give people a reason to talk about you? Stop consuming other peoples success. Start creating your own. You are giving your personal energy away to someone else when you do this. Create your own energy. Create your own life for THEM to be envious of.

Be the producer. The producer gets the girl or guy. The producer gets the raise or new postiiton. The producer finds a way out of mediocrity. The producer lives a REAL life!

Why not start building your life? Work on the job you have and see how you can become more valuable to the people you work for. This is how people move up and get ahead.

Going from a consumer to a producer will help you recognize opportunity. You will start to develop insight and new ways to make your life better.

Have A Budget and Save What Is Left

Start budgeting and saving. You need to start building YOUR future. Saving some money is the easiest way to start “making more money”. You can give yourself a raise by simply not spending ALL of your money every week. Building your wealth starts with saving money.

If you become successful but don’t know how to live within your means, it does not matter. You will always be broke. I was making a quarter million dollars a month and was basically broke. Why? Because I had no idea how much I was spending.

So my big three success principles are these:

  1. Get in shape and get your energy levels where they should be
  2. Stop consuming and start producing a life you deserve.
  3. Start saving money and growing your life. Stuff doesn’t matter, your bank account does. It will give you peace of mind and a stress free life.

These are the big three guys and gals. This is my mission here. To push these three things as hard as I can. If you can accomplish these three things you will be healthier, happier and have less stress. This will help you live a happier, healthier, more fulfilled life.

What I Learned Not Drinking For 30 Days, Results of Dry January

The results are in. I officially went all of January without a single drop of alcohol. No beer, whiskey or wine. None. It has been a great experience. This is the story.

Why I Did It..

There were a few reasons why I decided to not drink for the month of January.

The first reason is because during the holiday season I usually eat and drink a lot. Christmas parties, events and what not kill my physique and motivation. Plus, I tend to drink more in the colder months here in the Midwest. I just do. I figured health wise I needed to cut back. It was getting to be a little more than a drink here and there. I was drinking most nights, if not every night.

I also seemed to be having a hard time losing weight. No matter what I did in the gym I couldn’t lose weight. No matter how much I dropped my food intake I couldn’t seem to lose weight.

And I couldn’t seem to quit drinking my beer. Every night after work I would come up with an excuse to put it off one more day.

I needed to do something drastic. So I decided to do a “dry January” and quit drinking the entire month of January.

The Weight Loss…

So for the first week I barely changed my diet. I figured I wasn’t drinking and the weight would just magically fall off. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. I didn’t lose one pound the first week.

So I started following this diet here

I followed this diet religiously and didn’t eat one cheat meal. I promised myself pizza and cheese dip for the super bowl if I stuck to it the entire month.

So I followed this diet

And I didn’t drink one drop of alcohol for the entire month of January.

The Results…

The results were that I dropped 18 pounds. Now remember I didn’t start until the second week. So I lost 18 pounds in a little over 3 weeks. That is success. That is progress. That is something that worked.

I am not saying do something as drastic as I did. I am just showing you what actually works and works fast.

The whole point of this blog is to give you the truth about success and self help. This diet worked. It sucked. It took dedication. But it worked.

Those people you see in magazines that look amazing do things like this. They are what the general public would call extreme. But you know what. They are successful. They achieve their goals.

Extreme or not, dry January was a success. I did what I set out to do. I lost 18 pounds in a little over 3 weeks. Now I can focus on a clean eating diet and raise my calories a little bit. The best part is that after eating like this, a clean eating diet with more calories will seem like a cheat meal. It is a win win.

Like I always say, simple but not easy. Let me know what you think.

3 Diets You Can Use To Lose 30 Pounds!

People often get hung up on the way they are going to do something. It is analysis paralysis. You sit and think about, read about and contemplate your problem. You think tomorrow sounds like a good idea. Or even better yet, Monday. When I was a smoker I was always going to quit on Monday. The whole time I smoked cigarettes (almost 20 years), I never bought a carton of cigarettes. I always bought one or two packs at a time. The reason is because I was always going to quit on Monday. When I finally did quit (12 years ago), I remember saying to myself, why do you wait so long?

The same is true for dieting. I can’t tell you how many times I told myself I was going to start my diet on Monday, so I might as well live it up this weekend. This thinking has put more weight on me than I can imagine. I have stopped doing this. When I start something, I do it now. Not tomorrow, now.

The point of this article is to let you know that you don’t need any special diet. You can lose weight with any diet. Any diet!

Here are three basic diets people usually use to lose weight fast. I have used two of these personally, at different times in life, to lose thirty pounds.

The vegan diet- Nothing But Veggies. I would never recommend this diet long term. But, if you ate this way and threw in some eggs, it would be pretty darn healthy. I have never eaten this way other than a juice cleanse I did a few times. This, in my opinion, would be a great “cleanse” to do for a few weeks. I know vegans will hate my opinion on this,  but getting enough protein is just too much work with this diet. Why not just eat a damn egg or two.

The No Carb Diet- Nothing But Meat And Cheese. In my opinion this is the best way to eat if you can stick to it. Great way for people used to overeating large portions of food. You can eat all you want and start losing weight. I have a real hard time sticking to this for a long time. I did lose a boatload of weight doing this diet though.  Read about my experience with this here.

The Whole Grain Type Diet– Sandwiches on whole grain bread (Ezekiel). Tacos on corn tortillas, beans, etc. Lots of veggies. Lean proteins. I lost 40 pounds eating this way. Read about how I did this diet here.

Ezekiel bread made by Food For Life. I ate this stuff every day and lost 40 pounds.

I have used all three of these diets to lose 30 pounds or more. Here are the reasons they all work.

  1. Portion control. While eating any of these ways, you must prepare your own food for the most part. When you do this, you automatically make yourself stick to a certain portion size. Portion sizes make a huge difference in caloric intake. Remember the Subway pervert who lost like 80 pounds eating two subs a day. It was mainly portion control.
  2. Eliminates sugar. These diets all pretty much eliminate or drastically reduce the amount of sugar and processed carbohydrate you take in. This eliminates a lot of calories. Your body functions better, digests food better, etc.
  3. Eliminates processed food. All of these diets eliminate processed white flour and packaged foods. Just eliminating packaged foods would make most people lighter and healthier.

That’s it. These are the reasons that almost ALL diets will work if you follow them. That is the key though, follow through. You need to break through the first week or two and let your body adjust. Depending on how much processed, sugary foods you eat this can be a huge adjustment. Sugar withdrawal is a real thing, even if only mental. You can actually get depressed when eliminating these foods. You need to fight through this phase with all your power.

Once you get to the next stage, you start seeing results. you start having more energy. You start feeling amazing. This usually kicks in a week or two after adopting healthier habits. Then you are off to the races and the sky is the limit.

The Conclusion…

Quit analyzing how you are going to get back in shape. Pick a healthy way of eating and do it. Start today. Plan everything out and start first thing tomorrow. Why wait? The amount of weight you can lose in one month is staggering. Why do we wait so long?

Make a decision to do it and do it. We always say decision+vision equals your mission. Make a decision to get in shape. Create a vision of how you want to look and make it your mission to do this. You can’t do it until you start. Imagine how good and full of energy you will feel a month from now.

Start today!

How I Lost 7 Pounds in Seven Days

I decided to quit drinking any alcohol for the month of January. People call it dry January. I call it getting my out of shape self back in shape month. Just kidding. It isn’t all for getting in shape. I need a reset. I have been drinking way too many craft beers. Towards the winter months, my two beers a night usually turns into 3-4 a night. And more on weekends. So I was due for this.

But even more than that, I need to lose weight. As of today, 14 days in I am doing fine. A little bored on the weekends watching football, but fine. If I wasn’t trying to diet at the same time it would be a damn cake walk to quit drinking. But I am dieting.

In fact, I lost 7 pounds this week. That’s right. Seven pounds in one week. The experts say its not healthy to lose that much weight so fast. You know what I say is unhealthy? Being fat.

So how did I lose the 7 pounds? Pretty simple really.

For breakfast I drink coffee with a bunch of half and half (like a quarter cup probably?). This is my go to breakfast, pretty much any day, diet or not. The cream fills me up until lunchtime which is usually around 11:00.

I drank Kum and Go Coffee every day for breakfast.

For lunch, I have been getting a Classic Roast Beef Sandwich from Arby’s and I eat it without the bun. This is about 150 calories allegedly. Not much, but hey I am trying to lose weight. It tastes good, is quick and easy and cheap.

I ate this sandwich without the bun every day for lunch.

For dinner I eat whatever we have at home for dinner. Typically some sort of protein or meat and veggies. I might have some bread or something. I had a Chic Fil A Cobb salad one night and Sushi another.I would say I am probably eating about 800 calories at dinner.

If I am absolutely starving after this I might eat some crackers or something. I just try to stick to the serving size and stay around 200 calories. I have eaten crackers with cheese or pate a few nights this week.

So the grand total of daily calories is about 1,200 calories. If I can, I skip the snack and come in under 1,000 calories. This is really low calorie. But I will tell you what, it isn’t bad after a day or two. Your body adjusts and you feel fine. Mainly I am just bored eating like this. Not starving hungry, but bored.

The other thing I noticed this week is the damn energy. Wow! I am bouncing off the walls. On a typical Sunday I will take a nap around 1 or 2 and then again at 6 after dinner. This week nothing and I had trouble falling asleep at ten.

So is this a long term solution? Absolutely not. Do I recommend it for anyone? No, not really. Other than the energy it sucks. I go to bed somewhat hungry every night. But you know what? I am fat. For the last year I have been “going to cut back” and “gonna losing some of this weight”. It hasn’t happened. Normally I can buckle down and get a grip on things and lose weight. This year it didn’t happen and drastic measures are in order. I need to see some results fast so I will get motivated. The seven pounds I dropped this week have done just that. I am going to keep this up until Superbowl Sunday and then adopt a more “healthy eating” lifestyle type diet. I am expecting a loss of 20 pounds. I will be posting results.

I must add that I have also been exercising daily. I lifted fairly heavy 3 days last week and did machine cardio (bike, treadmill, elliptical) at 20-30 minutes 5 days. My goal when I do cardio is basically to try and burn off my breakfast and lunch. I figure this way I have a little wiggle room if I get super hungry later on. It isn’t too hard to burn off breakfast and lunch when I am only taking in a couple hundred calories.

So that’s it. 7 pounds in a week. A little extreme I know. I am an all or nothing type of guy. I have to see results fast or I lose interest. It’s the same way with going to the gym. I absolutely must start eating well when I am working out so I see results faster. I cannot stand going to the gym every day and then eating my gains away.

How To Lose Weight Without Changing Your Diet

Eat burgers and still lose weight? Maybe.

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard somebody say or write that you cannot outwork a bad diet. It is pretty much common knowledge amongst virtually all fitness professionals. I am sure somewhere right now a personal trainer is telling a client this very thing. But there is only one problem.

It is complete bullshit.

You Can But Probably Won’t Outwork A Bad Diet….

The thing is this. You can outwork a bad diet but you probably won’t. That is the truth. You are reading this because you want to know how to keep eating your shitty diet and get into shape. You want to know how to look like those people in the magazines without changing one bit of your eating habits. Well, first of all those people are taking chemicals to look like that almost 100 percent of the time. Second of all, you ain’t looking like that without changing your diet.

But you can look damn good and still eat like you want. But, there is a price. You will have to work out a ton. I mean a lot. Everyday.

Try this. Go and run on the treadmill and run for 30 minutes. See how many calories you burned. Probably around 250-300. That is one large pop or soda from a gas station. So you are going to have to double that and run for an hour. Then you are going to have to do this twice a day. Then you are going to have to throw a weight workout into one of these sessions. If you do that, I almost guarantee you will start to lose weight without changing your diet.

You are probably thinking that is impossible. It isn’t impossible. There are people out there who run 20+ miles a day, almost every day of the week. So it is possible. Just not likely. Most people would do that workout once, maybe twice before quitting.

But there is an easier way.

Change Your Damn Diet…

This is why trainers tell people they cannot outwork a bad diet. Because the truth is very few people on this planet have the drive to workout hard enough to do so. I mean VERY few people. And even if you do it isn’t really sustainable.

Sooner or later after working out this much, your body will start to wear down. You will get injuries. You will get busy with life. You will get sick and tired of having to exercise so much.

So the easier way is to eat a little better AND workout. This is the magic combo and is much easier.

One time I was running on a treadmill and didn’t want to. It was a horrible run made worse by the fact that I was on a damn treadmill (I hate running indoors). I looked down and I had burned like 170 calories. Nothing. I remember thinking I could leave the cream out of my coffee in the morning and lose that many calories. (yeah I use a lot of cream.)

So think about that the next time you order a mocha choaka latte. Or drink a soda. If you drink just three sodas during the day it is equivalent to running for thirty minutes. Which is easier? Running for thirty minutes or not drinking the damn three sodas. I would way rather not drink the three sodas. Now, if you don’t drink the soda AND run the thirty you have doubled your efforts.

This is key. Try to combine both. This is the conclusion I have come to regarding working out. It might not cancel out a bad diet. But, if I am eating somewhat healthy and slip up, it could be the difference between me still losing weight and gaining weight or staying the same. Working out can make it easier to be able to have a snack or treat and not sabotaging your whole plan.

I am here to give you what works. Exercising and eating better works. Plain and simple. This is the cold hard truth. You can try to get around it. You can fight it. But in the end it is the right way. It is not the only way as I have laid out. But, it is the simplest way. Simple, but not easy. Now get to work on it.

How To Lose 30 Pounds Eating Steak and Eggs

I once lost 30 pound eating only steak and eggs. No kidding. I also would make pudding with half and half and protein powder. Besides that, I ate nothing but steak and eggs for a couple months. And I lost 30 pounds I had put on during the winter. The thought was I was building muscle and when I cut down it would all show. I figured out this doesn’t work very well unless you are taking chemicals (steroids, etc.).

I got the idea for the steak and eggs diet out of an old bodybuilding book called Unleashing The Wild Physique. It was written by a guy named Vince Gironda. Vince had a gym in California where he trained bodybuilders and movie stars. It was called Vince’s gym and was as famous as Gold’s Gym back in the day.

Unleashing The Wild Physique

In the book he called it the meat only diet if I remember correctly. My wife threw the book out for some reason and now they are worth hundreds of dollars as it is out of print. It was basically just meat (any meat), eggs and water. He was also a big fan of liver tablets but that is another story.

I did this diet in the spring, after bulking most of the winter. I had been reading a lot of bodybuilding articles and it sounded like a good idea. I was trying to put on muscle. I did get incredibly stronger when I was heavier but it wasn’t worth it. I think I would have been better just eating the steak and eggs from the get go.

So here is what I did. The local supermarket here in town which is now Kroger would have ribeye steaks on sale for 5 bucks. So, I would buy 3 or 4 of those and cook them up two or three at a time. I would eat one for dinner and slice the rest up into bite sized pieces. Then I would fry eggs in a pan so they were over easy or over medium.

Then I would put the bite size pieces of steak and the eggs into a large plastic container. I would bring these to work with me the next day and just eat an egg or two and some steak whenever I got hungry. For a snack I would eat protein powder mixed with cream or half and half.

When I started this diet, I thought no way this can work. How can I eat steak every day and lose weight? Then the weight started falling off. I would guess I got into the best shape of my life, not counting when I trained for and ran my marathon. The thing is though, I didn’t need to do so much cardio. I didn’t get in six pack shape, but I was lean and muscular.

The funny thing about eating almost zero carbs is that after a few days you aren’t even hungry. Your blood sugar stabilizes and you never get that ravenous hunger. Even if you skip a meal and don’t eat for a long time, you never experience those really strong hunger pangs.

When you eat carbs, your blood sugar spikes. Then when it drops down, you get really hungry. Most of us are perpetually in this cycle. When you cut out the carbohydrate, this never happens. The cycle is broken.

Your body starts burning fat instead of sugar and your energy levels out. The energy is real consistent. You never get that blast of energy like you do from sugar, but you also never get the crash afterwards.

It really is a great way to eat. My only problem with this diet, is I don’t find it sustainable. I can do it for an extended time, but I don’t think I could ever do it for the rest of my life. It just isn’t very satisfying. Certainly not as satisfying as say a baguette with butter smeared on it. Or a bowl of spaghetti carbonara. Some people (like my wife) can eat low carb consistently. I, it turns out, cannot. I just like food too much. I would rather do more cardio to be honest.

So that is the steak and eggs diet. It definitely works for weight loss. It definitely works for energy. It is a great tool for getting in shape. Give it a try. It might be just what you are looking for. And you get to eat ribeye steaks all day!

This Is The Diet I Used To Lose 40 Pounds in A Few Months

So you want to lose weight? You must because you clicked on this article. You are in luck. This is the easiest diet in the world. It packs and travels well. You will need to prepare a lunch, but that is about it. I started this blog to help people get in shape and be successful in business and life. I am not always in shape or successful, but this diet worked.

This is the diet I used to lose about 40 pounds in a few months. I also was training for a marathon during this time, so it wasn’t entirely due to this diet. I was running four miles on Tuesday and Thursday, and 6-10ish miles on Sunday. Sometimes I would run Saturday as well for four miles. So I was running well over 20 miles per week. I was also working (construction) and started to swim a few nights a week as well. So, I was expending a lot of calories and not taking in very many.

I always like reading about peoples workouts and diet when they are in shape themselves. Well, here is a picture of me five months after eating and running like this.

The diet looked like this:

I would usually skip breakfast and have a coffee with a ton of half and half in it (about a quarter cup). This is a habit I have until this day. If I put the fat in there I don’t get hungry until around ten or eleven.

For lunch I would have a peanut or almond butter sandwich with honey. Sometimes I would have deli turkey with mayo or hummus. The bread I ate exclusively was Ezekiel bread. This stuff is organic and has a good deal of fiber in it. It takes some getting used to as it is very dense and grainy. It was the healthiest bread I could find within my criteria. I was looking for an organic bread with a good deal of fiber and low in sugar. Ezekiel bread fit the bill.

Ezekiel bread made by Food For Life. I ate this stuff every day and lost 40 pounds.

For dinner I would take whatever meat my wife made for dinner and make tacos with it. I would heat up refried beans and smear it on corn tortillas and put the meat on top of that. It was typically chicken or roast, sometimes fish. Then I would add avocado and salsa or hot sauce. If I didn’t eat this, it was usually just meat and veggies.

For snacks, I would usually eat a piece of fruit everyday and some Kashi granola bars. If I was really hungry at night, I would eat a little grape nuts cereal with milk.

Basically, it was a low sugar, high fiber diet. I concentrated on whole grains and getting a good bang for my buck. My thought process was that if I prepared my own food, I could eat a good amount of food and still keep my calories low. I also ate zero fast food. I was drinking 2-4 craft beers almost every night. I am guessing the running allowed me to do this. If I wasn’t doing so much cardio, I would have had to cut out the beer to see results with this diet.

That is it. Simple and easy. I always say my goal with this blog is to give people stuff that works. This diet works. I know it is grain heavy, but it is really healthy. I felt amazing eating like this. Best of all, it doesn’t involve eliminating bread (which I love).

Remember. All you have to do is make a decision to do something. Decide right now to try this diet if you want. Then visualize the way you want to look and make it happen. Make it your mission. Decision+Vision=Mission.

3 Ways To Guarantee You Won’t Get Fat, or Too Fat

First of all, I admit that right now I am not in good shape. In fact, according to a BMI calculator I am overweight. I am 5’9″ tall and weigh about 195 pounds. I say about because I get down below 190 and then balloon up to 200. This is the cycle I have been in for the last 3 or 4 years.

At one time I was 162 pounds and ripped. This was after I ran a marathon and a 50k. That was the best shape I have ever been in. But not now. Now I am fat.

But, at 195ish I am in better shape than most or probably all of my friends. When I complain about being 195 almost everybody says they wish they were 195. Maybe I need some new friends.

Here is the thing though. I can somewhat eat what I want and stay at this weight as long as I reign it in every now and then and stay somewhat active. So although I love being in shape, I REALLY love to cook and eat.

So here are three of my countless set of rules I use to stay overweight, but not obese, I guess?.

Rule #1 Don’t Eat Where Fat People Eat

If you are eating in a restaurant full of fat people, maybe think about trying somewhere else. This is really hard nowadays because everybody is fat, but you get the point.

For a short while my wife had somewhere to take my daughter on Wednesday nights. My wife dislikes Chinese food (I know). What can I say, she doesn’t like rice (I know). So, my son and I started going to a Chinese restaurant called Grand Fortune. Typical American Chinese food. You know kung pao and all that done well. Typical Chinese restaurant décor. It looks like a place straight out of Big Trouble In Little China.

Anyways, one night were are sitting there and I am drinking a Buddha beer after stuffing myself with crab Rangoon and kung pao chicken. I start looking around and noticing that ALL the other diners are overweight. I mean ALL! Then I started watching the endless stream of takeout order picker uppers coming through the door. They were overwhelmingly overweight as well.

Then I started thinking about one of my best friends who absolutely loves Chinese food. He has a huge struggle with this weight as well.

I looked at my son and said half jokingly maybe we shouldn’t eat this so often. And I haven’t. It has been probably a year since I have eaten Chinese.

Now don’t think I am condemning Chinese food. Same goes for barbecue, fried chicken and most other place I love.

All I am saying is if a eating establishments clientele is largely overweight, maybe find another place to be a regular customer.

Rule #2 Don’t Eat Fast Food, Or At Least French Fries

I understand that for most people not eating fast food is impossible. However, if you can avoid it, it will make staying thin or in shape much easier. When I was in the best shape of my life I went two years without eating a single fast food meal. Two years!  If I can do it anybody can. I own a construction company and eat out of my truck almost every day of the week. But, I also understand.

What I do now when I stop to eat fast food is limit my calorie intake. I used to get a large combo meal, plus an extra burger when I would eat at these places. Now, I order a large sandwich (think Big Mac, Whopper) and that is it. I don’t get a combo. I don’t get fries or a drink.

Do I want fries? Sure. I would rather eat the Big Mac and fries with ranch. But I would then feel like shit and end up downing 1,200-1,400 calories. A Big Mac surprisingly only has 560 calories. Not too bad really.

So skip the fast food. If you can’t do that skip the fries. If you can’t do that skip the drink.

Rule #3 Stay Somewhat Active

The other way I keep from getting fatter than I already am right now is to try to stay somewhat active. When I was younger I would work construction in the summer and lose any weight I put on in the winter.

Now, I actually put on weight in the summer and lose it in the winter. This is simply because in the winter we don’t work much and I can get in the gym somewhat regularly.

So, what I started doing this year is try to get in the gym 1-2 days a week. So far, I have kept this up for 10 months. I do an upper body workout and a lower body workout. If I can make it in the gym at least one day, I have worked my entire upper body. If I can make it in more, I do.

Now when I start working out regularly this winter I won’t be starting from scratch. In other words I won’t be a total fat ass.

So there you have it. Three easy ways to guarantee you won’t at least become fatter than you already are. And just maybe, you might kickstart some other healthy habits other than these.

The Easiest Way To Lose Weight Without Exercise..

Ok folks. In the last post I wrote about what I think is the quickest way to lose weight.  Running. The only bad part is you have to run, which even if you like it kind of sucks. Running is the opposite of drinking alcohol. When you drink it is fun and then it sucks. When you run, it sucks and then you feel good after. Once in a blue moon you will have that amazing run where you feel like you could go on forever. But, most of the time, it just plain sucks.

So, I have an alternative to lose tons of weight without ANY exercise.

You want to know what it is?

Well, it is very simple.

Eat Nothing But Meat…

Eat Meat. Just meat and water. Maybe some cheese. No veggies until you lose the weight. The easiest and fastest way to lose weight on the planet.

I once lost about 30 pounds in a couple months eating nothing but grilled steak and fried eggs. I would grill steak every night for dinner and make enough for left overs. Then I would fry a half a dozen or so eggs and put them with the sliced steak in a container and bring them to work. Then I would eat whenever I felt hungry. The weight started dropping off. I also mixed protein powder with whole cream for a low carb pudding and had that for dessert.

I got his idea at the time from a guy named Vince Gironda. He had a gym in California called Vince’s Gym and used to train bodybuilders and movie stars. He even trained Arnold Schwarzenegger at one time. It worked like magic.

I will make another post soon about paleo and low carb eating but it really is easy. Once your blood sugar stabilizes from not eating carbohydrates every three or four hours, you are hardly even hungry. The only drawback is it just isn’t very satisfying. Not in the same way as, say a baguette with butter on it.

But if you like steak, you can’t go wrong.

Now, I can hear people saying how unhealthy this is. I agree it seems unhealthy. The way I always look at eating low carb when I do it, is that I would be eating this stuff anyways just with a lot of bread and pasta on top of it. The way I see it is that if I am thinner and have more energy, something is working.

So get the grill and skillet out and give it a try.

The Absolute Quickest Way To Lose A Ton of Weight!!

Okay folks. You want to know the quickest and simplest (not easiest) way to lose a ton of weight. Well, I will get to that in a few. But first, let me tell you a story.

About six years ago, I had a health scare. I started having a funny heartbeat and went in to see a cardiologist. He ordered a stress test and when it came back he said he thought I had a blockage. I was only 36 at the time. It seemed wrong.

So, I went and got a second opinion. He basically told me the exact opposite. Said he didn’t see any of this from the test. I leaned towards believing the second doctor because when I went to get copies of the tests sent over they said they didn’t have the technology to do so. What? I am a contractor and I have the technology to burn discs! What the hell.

This seemed to put me at ease that I at least wasn’t going to die. It did however scare the living shit out of me and really lit a fire under my ass. As you will soon see, people can do amazing things with the proper motivation.

I decided a lifestyle change was in order. I started eating better. More fish, whole grains, beans. I adopted what I figured out to be a heart healthy diet. I didn’t go vegan, but it was better quality protein and low sugar. Basically I ate a peanut butter sandwich with honey, on Ezekiel bread for lunch and made a taco with beans, corn tortillas and whatever meat my wife made for dinner.

Then I started running. A lot.

I remember the first day I went out and ran a half mile. It about killed me. I kept going. Now, I had been a “runner” before. The most I ever ran was six miles, but I had been a regular 3-4 mile runner before so I wasn’t a complete novice.

In a really short time I ran seven miles. I remember being amazed at that distance.

I wonder how far I could run? So, I started doing a long run on the weekends and signed up for a marathon about six months down the road. By mid summer I was doing 15 plus miles on a sunday. And it was a hot damn summer. I ran eight runs in a row where it was 100 degrees or hotter.

I ramped up to twenty 24 miles and then ran my marathon. It was easy to finish, I was ready and it was a lot of fun. I was basically running a long run except I had all these volunteers to hand me water, Gatorade and gel packets. The whole energy and vibe was awesome.

Now to the great part. I was about 162 pounds. This was the lightest I had been since high school. I had a full blown six pack and was junky muscular. I had lost about 40 pounds in a few months. Unbelievable.

So, the simplest way to lose weight? Start running. And don’t stop. And don’t decide to run a 50k the week after your marathon and fuck everything up like I did. But that my friends is another story.

So run. Eat healthier. Lose weight and get a six pack. Simple. But not easy.
